A Virtual Private Server (VPS) is a dedicated slice of a physical machine with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD resources. Unlike shared hosting — where hundreds of sites compete for the same pool of resources — your VPS resources are yours alone. You get full root access, your own operating system, and complete isolation from other customers. Think of shared hosting as renting a room in a house; a VPS is renting the entire floor.

An unmanaged VPS (our default) gives you root access and you are responsible for the OS, updates, security hardening, and software. This is ideal for developers and sysadmins who want full control. A managed VPS (available as an add-on for Pro and Enterprise plans) means our team handles server administration, OS updates, security patches, monitoring, and incident response — you just focus on your application.

Yes. Upgrades between VPS tiers (Basic to Pro to Enterprise) are performed live and require at most a brief reboot — typically under 60 seconds. Your IP addresses, data, and configurations remain intact. You will be billed the prorated difference for the remainder of your billing cycle.

We offer Ubuntu 20.04, 22.04 and 24.04 LTS, Debian 11 and 12, CentOS Stream 9, AlmaLinux 9, Rocky Linux 9, and Fedora Server. You can also request a custom ISO for specialised deployments. OS reinstalls are available at any time via the control panel.

All VPS plans include weekly automated snapshots stored off-site on Wasabi S3 — an S3-compatible object storage service separate from our infrastructure. Snapshots capture your entire disk image and can be restored to any point in the last 4 weeks. On-demand snapshots are also available before major changes.

Bandwidth is measured as total outbound traffic per calendar month. Inbound traffic is not counted. If you exceed your allowance, your connection is throttled to 100 Mbps for the remainder of the month — you are never charged an overage fee. You can upgrade your plan or purchase additional bandwidth top-ups at any time.

Yes. Network-level DDoS mitigation is included on every Soelem VPS plan — no add-on fees. Attacks are detected and scrubbed upstream of your server. We handle volumetric attacks up to 10 Gbps. For application-layer (Layer 7) attacks, we recommend pairing your VPS with Cloudflare, which has a free tier and is straightforward to configure.

A 99.99% monthly uptime SLA means your VPS should experience no more than approximately 4.38 minutes of unplanned downtime per month. If we fall below this threshold, you are entitled to service credits applied to your next invoice. The SLA covers infrastructure availability — network, power, and hypervisor. It does not cover downtime caused by your own OS or software configuration.
